I’ve enjoyed running most of my adult life. Mostly sticking to the short distances such a 5k to 10k. But after having 4 kids and and my increasing age, running was taking a toll on my body. A few years ago, after some pain in my left heel, I discovered I had plantar fasciitis. Shortly after that, a stress fracture was found in my left foot. I rested for two months and went back to running as usual.
Fast forward to last fall when I discovered that I, again, had another stress fracture in the same place in the same foot. I then decided it was probably time to check in with a physical therapist to see what’s going on with my run form. Denise was highly recommended by a good friend and I was so happy to have met her.
First, we videotaped me running and found that my left hip would drop when I’d run. Ah, that was what was causing all the issues! Turns out it wasn’t my foot or feet that were the problem, it was my very weak core (after having babies) that was the culprit! Denise and I worked for a few months on strength and form and now I am free to hit the pavement again.
