Why do you Run?
I like to compete and do well in races. Running makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something even though while racing I feel like I’m dying. I’ve found that my mood is better after a run and it is a good escape from the stress of school. My goal is to qualify for the state meet for cross country and the 2 mile race during track.
What are your other interests?
I love animals, particularly wolves. Last month I went to work on a wolf sanctuary in Colorado. While there I did a lot of labor such as building fences, hauling manure and lumber, and sawing wood to improve the sanctuary. I also learned how to approach a wolf, which is different than approaching a dog. When approaching a wolf, I look them in the eye and smile, then the wolf will come up to me and allow me to pet them for a moment.
I also like to play video games such as minecraft, pokemon, and pokemon go.
Why did you come to PT at The Manual Touch?
In 2015, I ended spring track season early because of terrible shin splints and in the fall I had to end cross-country season early because of a tibial stress fracture. I had to walk on crutches for 3 weeks and no running for 3 mos. This past track season, spring 2016, I was determined not to get injured so I could make it through the whole season. I began seeing Denise before track season began in order to figure out why I got injured and how to prevent future injuries. I did the exercises she gave me almost every day in order to improve my flexibility and strengthen my feet and hips. Well, it paid off! Not only did I make it through the whole season without a single injury, I PR’d in the 2 mile, dropping my time by 35 sec to 11:10 which is the state qualifier for the 2 mile! Unfortunately in the state qualifying race my time of 11:13 just missed the qualifying time of 11:10. Next year, I will be there!
