Why did you begin building birdhouses?
When I retired over 10 years ago, I needed a hobby, something I could do in a man cave. So, I began making birdhouses and bird feeders as I love birds, particularly the blue jay. Their blue color streaked with white is so beautiful. For my backyard I made a “bird apartment”, with multiple houses for the birds.
My process is simple and enjoyable. I buy sheets of wood and cut them into the pieces for the birdhouse. The pieces are then glued together. Some houses have shingles on the roof, others have just slats of wood. When the house is complete I shellac them. Some houses can be hung by a chain others are nailed to the side of the house or a post.
Why did you come to PT at The Manual Touch?
I hurt my back at work over 10 years ago and had to retire because of the pain. When my doctor and longtime PT moved away, I began with a new doctor last year who recommended I come see Denise. I researched Denise’s abilities and she sounded like a good fit, so I gave it a try. She has me doing things I haven’t been able to do since I’ve been injured! That was 6 mos ago and I plan to continue as I have never felt better.
What are your goals?
I want to get off my pain meds and continue to feel better. “This is better than going to the doctor and taking medicine.”
From Denise: Don has made me a beautiful birdfeeder and birdhouse that brightens up my yard.
