Mindfulness – quite the buzz word these days. I’ve seen articles fly by on my google homepage about:
Mindful eating
Mindful showering
Mindful meditation
Mindful exercise
How about Mindful Physical Therapy? I haven’t seen an article about Mindful PT fly by on my homepage. But really, PTs have been teaching mindfulness forever – we just call it education. So, what is mindfulness? Mindfulness is the state of being conscious or aware of something in the moment. I recently heard a woman, who is recovering from a stroke, speak at a fundraiser. She said “If I’m not mindful when walking, I will fall down”. She learned this during her PT.
PTs teach you how to focus on all the nuances and subtleties of movement and stability by bringing an awareness to what your body is doing at any given moment. Sounds like mindfulness to me.
We teach people how to sit and stand properly, how to transition from sit to stand and back again, how to walk, how to run, how to exercise, and how to perform your favorite sporting activity. In fact, for any mundane, daily activity you might do, such as opening doors or putting on a seat belt, we teach you the best way to do that so as to prevent pain and injury.
I am very passionate about teaching people how to function throughout the day pain and injury free . So, passionate that I created this e-book with lots of mindful tips on how to move through your life in order to prevent injury.

This is a very well thought out & written blog post. Being mindful can only take place if people are instructed to be mindful, or helped to be intuitively AWARE , thru out their day. People are so disconnected with their bodies these days, that PT , yoga & personal training should be focused on creating a reconnection. to our function. What you are accomplishing is amazing & is more extensively needed In our society !! Keep up your great work & I will add your post & link onto my website.
Have a peaceful Holiday weekend.
